Especially in a situation where the customer only in general outlines how the publication should be, the specialist can fully realize his artistic abilities, creating on the basis of a raw dataset a whole mosaic, each element of which will be in place. A good layout worker who does not retreat by work, gradually becomes a client, and then it is not necessary to look for work anymore – she is looking for him.

The installer is a specialist in creating polygraphic layouts, performing a layout of text, illustrative and auxiliary elements on the pages of the document.
In general, technical education, programming skills, and the availability of a systematic approach to work organization are welcomed, as modern systems are very complex software products. The path to the profession
Previously, the layout makers often became collectors, now – graduates of specialized computer courses, creative self-taught, and sometimes even retrained secretaries, office managers, system administrators. In addition, people who are interested in computers come to the profession. However, the widespread use of PCs and the rapid increase in the number of users have led to the fact that, inspired by the ease of mastering the programs, those who do not have the basic knowledge of technical processes and design basics are starting to engage in the process, which in turn negatively affects the quality of the technical and visual components of the editions.
The main task of the layout designer is the competent quick turning and layout of the material in accordance with the sketch of the layout. The installer is responsible for the compliance of the layout file with the printing requirements and makes correctional corrections. Job responsibilities of publishers may vary greatly depending on the companies in which they work. Sometimes their task is to accept the order, set the text, check the films and control the device at the printing press, perform the functions of the system administrator, but in large organizations, experts have a narrower range of responsibilities.
The main task of the layout designer is the competent quick turning and layout of the material in accordance with the sketch of the layout.
Depending on the nature of the tasks performed, two types of functional can be identified:
The plotter collects a finished edition of the finished illustrations and the text according to the page layout provided by the editorial board (art director or publishing editor).
The page layout exists, the texts are ready in advance, but with the illustrations the layout designer works himself – selects, prepares, produces a small retouch.
It should be borne in mind that the breaking of periodicals (magazines, newspapers, etc.) is to some extent different from the corresponding work with an advertising brochure or other publications that do not have a regular release. At the end of the periodical process, the process is maximally automated and requires a high speed designer with both text and illustrations. The general concept of the design is dictated by the art director of the publication, and the designer is only an executor of ideas within the framework of the general concept of registration.
When dealing with nonperiodic editions, often for promotional purposes, the designer can connect his design skills, since there is a choice of layout design. Such an activity is more interesting, but it requires a specialist to first of all possess knowledge in the field of composition and design, as well as the artistic taste and sense of the measure.
A novice maker should have the following skills:
basic computer literacy;
Ownership of programs: usually Adobe InDesign, less often QuarkXPress and Adobe PageMaker;
literacy and good visual memory.
The skilled designer-layout designer must have the following abilities:
technically competent and fast work in the main programs of the jerk;
work with raster and vector graphic editors such as Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw;
the ability to find new ideas, to develop a plan of the publication, to have an artistic taste;
knowledge of classical typography;
possession of retouching and color correction;
availability of basic knowledge on pre-press preparation of layouts.
An additional advantage for a competitor, especially a small company, is the possession of a computer at the level of the system administrator of a high level, as well as basic artistic education. In addition, the progressive development of the information industry leads to the fact that the specialist must always be aware of new methods and techniques of work.
