The photographer is a creator and a businessman

The photographer is a creative profession, on which you can earn well. But one has to either face the choice of “creative realization – profit”, or have enough income from their ideas. The main thing is that they are interesting to the customer.

It is difficult to master the profession of a photographer. True, today there are many varied courses on which you can learn the basics of the photodetector. Learning to take a digital camera is much easier because the main function is taken by yourself. For example, sports journalists in reportage surveys are important to be able to capture the moment of impact on the goal in football or a good jump in rhythmic gymnastics. In such cases, it is important not only the speed of the image, the speed of the reaction, but also the trouble-free operation of the equipment.
It is a completely different matter – a classic photograph, when the quality of the image is taken not by the speed of the picture, but by its quality. Some photographers spend half a day spending the right shot, long choose the right lighting, the desired angle. Of course, at three-month courses you can learn how to use the technique well, but in order to make photographs professional, you need to take photos and re-photograph them. Experience and crafts come after many years of work.

Creator or delegate?
Each photographer consists of two parts. One feeds his body, the other – the soul. The first was called a businessman, the second – the creator. He is in every professional photographer. Without exception. It is possible to engage only in creativity, but then the photograph will not bring income, and therefore it will forever remain a secondary occupation. Hobby Such a photographer will once be engaged in improving their skills. He will not be able to invest in a new technique. Spend time on training. Just because it is, in modern language, “non-core business”.

It’s a little harder with the people. Some of them, investing in their development, knowing how much the name and regalia of the customer can be important to the customer. Others – on the contrary, they consider it a waste of money: they say, why buy a new camera, if this removes quite tolerable. However, the essence is not at all. And the fact that representatives of this type are engaged in “photocopying” of reality. Very often their work is reduced to the timely pressing of a button. They rarely pay attention to the processing of the resulting material, believing that they worked their time during the shooting. And to shave over each photo, having spent the night behind a computer, above their photographic dignity.

Meanwhile, despite all the negative things that have been expressed in the direction of businessmen and creators, both of these types live in each of the professional photographers. And the question is only about who in the end will be more. Does this mean that all photographers are greedy amateurs? Of course not. Each creator is looking for a way to realize oneself. He tirelessly looks for his style, he does not care about money, it is important for him to get a result that would satisfy his super-high demands. Every day he wages war with mediocrity and wins it, finding new and new ways to realize his creative impulses. But as if not a good creator, he would not survive without a businessman. It is the latter that forces the photographer to invest in technology, holding a hand on the pulse of world photoprogress, engaging in development and training. It is he who makes a professional photographer. Such, which each of us wants to see at his wedding, birthday party or corporate party.

Golden middle
Of course, given the duality of each of the types described, the ideal photographer must consist of equal parts of the creator and the businessman. However, as is often the case, perfect photographers are only on paper. As a rule, one or the other type prevails in a photographer. And the best one is the one in which these forces tend to balance each other. So how to distinguish good from bad?

First of all, of course, one should pay attention to simple and unambiguous criteria. Such as the cost of services, the level of technology, the quality of photos. A good photographer knows the price. He will not require super-high pay, but will not work for nothing. He will definitely find a way to report on the technique he uses: either a page on his site or just the information that is reported in the conversation. He will not hide his work from the viewers. I will definitely mention the postprocessing of photos, because I sincerely believe that the frames saved from the flash drive are raw material that has nothing to do with creativity: even it seemed that perfect frames require a small color correction, which is explained by the specifics of digital photography. It will surely please two or three pleasant bonuses for which you will not pay extra, and if you take, it will be exactly as much as it takes to purchase materials. A good photographer will not be able to promise the photos “the next day”, but will not even expect to wait for several weeks.
